J. Paul Getty (1892-1976) was an American oil tycoon who founded Getty Oil Company in 1942 and became one of the world's wealthiest individuals. Born in Minneapolis, he entered the oil business early, making his first million by age 23 through Oklahoma oil leases. During World War II, Getty contributed to the war effort by overseeing his Spartan Aircraft Company in Tulsa, Oklahoma, producing military components. Despite a brief FBI investigation in 1940 regarding pre-war statements admiring German efficiency (which found no evidence of disloyalty), he fully supported the Allied cause. Getty later established the renowned J. Paul Getty Museum and was known for his vast art collection and philanthropy. The payees, the Gittleson Brothers, were involved in being ticket brokers in Early Hollywood as well as owning many Miniature Golf courses throughout the area.
