$130.00

Authentic J. Paul Getty signed check dated October 31, 1942, drawn on Chase National Bank, New York, payable to Mrs. Louise Lynch (Teddy Lynch, his fifth wife) for $100.00 for household expenses. The check is signed and endorsed by her as well. This original document features Getty's bold signature in blue ink and includes a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) from Golden State Autographs, a reputable dealer in historical autographs.J. Paul Getty (1892-1976) was an American oil tycoon who founded Getty Oil Company in 1942 and became one of the world's wealthiest individuals. Born in Minneapolis, he entered the oil business early, making his first million by age 23 through Oklahoma oil leases. During World War II, Getty contributed to the war effort by overseeing his Spartan Aircraft Company in Tulsa, Oklahoma, producing military components. Despite a brief FBI investigation in 1940 regarding pre-war statements admiring German efficiency (which found no evidence of disloyalty), he fully supported the Allied cause. Getty later established the renowned J. Paul Getty Museum and was known for his vast art collection and philanthropy. The payee, Louise Dudley "Teddy" Lynch (1913-2017), was a singer and actress who married Getty in Rome in 1939; their marriage lasted until 1958, the longest of his five. They had one son, Timothy (1946-1958). Teddy Lynch authored a memoir, "Alone Together: My Life with J. Paul Getty," published in 2013. This check provides a personal insight into Getty's family life during the WWII era.Item Details:
