Original 1869 Vanity Fair chromolithograph caricature of Mr. M. E. Grant-Duff, a British statesman and politician.
This is Statesmen No. 33, published October 2, 1869, and illustrated by Carlo Pellegrini, better known as "Ape." The caricature is titled "A philosophic liberal."
Grant-Duff later became Governor of Madras and was an important British political and administrative figure. This is an authentic 19th-century Vanity Fair caricature and an excellent example of Victorian political satire and period color lithography.
The print retains its original printed borders, Vanity Fair heading, date, series number, and "Ape" signature.
