1826 MAINE GOVERNOR ALBION K. PARRIS SIGNED MILITIA COMMISSION – CAPTAIN LIGHT INFANTRY – EMBOSSED STATE SEAL
An attractive and historically significant original 1826 State of Maine militia commission signed by Governor Albion K. Parris, appointing Jeremiah Baker as Captain of a Company of Light Infantry in the Third Regiment, First Brigade, Fifth Division of the Maine Militia.
The commission bears the large embossed Seal of the State of Maine and is also countersigned by Secretary of State Joseph Williamson.
Dated August 18, 1826, the commission grants Baker rank from July 1, 1826, during Maine's formative years as a newly admitted state.
The reverse retains the official printed oath certificate confirming Baker personally appeared and subscribed the constitutional oath on September 8, 1826, adding an additional layer of historical interest seldom preserved with these 1826 Maine militia commission
