The man stands outside in front of a clapboard-sided building, holding the dog securely against his chest while both face the camera. The dog has upright ears, a thick white coat, and an especially expressive face.
The reverse carries a wonderful handwritten message:
“This you see, when all alone, crack a smile and say dog-gone.
Love – Willie”
The playful inscription gives the photograph a particularly personal, affectionate character and suggests it may have been sent or given as a keepsake during the wartime era.
The man appears to be wearing a military-style uniform shirt consistent with the 1940s, though no visible insignia or unit markings are present, so no specific branch or service attribution is being made.
