You are offerding on one as-is pre-lateral Stanley No 10 carriage makers wood rabbet plane as pictured. There are some condition issues, so please keep reading down to the condition paragraphs.

The body is not marked. It is marked "L BAILEY'S PATENT AUG 31, 1858 AUG 61867" on the recessed brass adjusting nut, "L BAILEY'S PATENT DEC 24, 1867" on the chip breaker, and "STANLEY RULE & LEVEL CO" in the small semi-circle offset to the right on the iron. The boss for the rear handle has the square front corners.

Overall length of the body is about 12-11/16".

Width of the iron at the sharp edge is just under 2-1/8", overall length of the iron is not quite 6-15/16", and there is about 11/16" between the sharp edge and where the iron starts to narrow down.

The threaded rod and nut that would secure the front knob are missing. The front knob has some substantial chips at the base on one side, another smaller chip on the opposite side of the base, lots of scratches and dings, and some paint spots to clean off.

The throat has been partially opened up on the rear edge as shown in the close-up pictures.

Condition would otherwise be fair to good with cleaning. The bottom and sides have an even dark patina with rust and some light pitting, but no serious pitting. Thee are no repairs to the sides. The japanning has rust showing through, especially behind the rear handle, and is lumpy around the front knob. The rear handle is unbroken in the usual area, but has some large chips out of the upper horn, and like the front knob. lots of scratches and dings in the wood, and quite a bit of paint to clean off including the stripe around the horn. The iron and chip breaker have quite a bit of patina (color) and light rust, with some heavier rust on the upper 1/3 of the iron on both sides. The iron will want some flattening and sharpening, as the front side which should be flat is slightly beveled. The lever cap has some rust but the lower edge appears to be intact.

Except as noted, there are no cracks or chips or chunks missing from any of the castings, and everything turns or operates properly.

There are a total of 21 pictures, please consider them all.

SHIPPING: 5 pounds when boxed, shipped US Postal Service Ground Advantage, insurance and tracking are included. No International shipping.

l sell what I enjoy, and I collect antique woodworking tools andI enjoy photography! The queue is overflowing with tools right now, as they seem to be finding me faster than I can list them. So please keep watching as I have LOTS more to list!

ETHICS IN DESCRIPTIONS: I also buy for my collecting on , and I have been burned too many times by misleading (duh did I forget to mention .......) descriptions, and sales with pictures only of the left side because the right side was trashed. Life is much simpler for me if I disclose what I know or see about an item before you offer, and especially before you receive it in the mail. I come from the handshake school of doing business, and hopefully you are like me and understand what that means. What goes around, comes around.

RETURN POLICY: I believe that if you give honest descriptions, and include enough pictures, you shouldn't need a return policy. However, that doesn't mean that I won't make an occasional mistake. Please offer with the assurance that if I have made an error in my listing, I WILL take care of you.

SHIPPING: I use the US Post Office for everything. If the value is $250 or over, I will always require a delivery confirmation signature, which requires for the buyer and seller protections to be in effect.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: I no longer ship Internationally other than Canada. If you are in Canada, ask for what the shipping would cost, but be prepared for it to be $$$$$.

NEWSLETTER:Every Friday sends out an email with my newsletter featuring 10 of my most interesting new listings. To subscribe, click on the heart symbol that is labeled SAVE SELLER, and that will automatically get you on the mailing list for the newsletters. They are free, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

SELLING OUTSIDE OF : Why would I risk my lengthy good standing with to save you a couple of dollars? Especially when you ask on an email that is sent through the email system which they are reading? Please don't ask, the answer is no.

sales: I won’t end an sale listing early to sell it to you directly. As a buyer, I really dislike going back at the end of an sale to offer, only to discover that the seller had ended the sale early. So I won’t do that for you, or to you.

PACKAGING: Please check my response -- I package well. I understand how disappointing it is to receive a purchase where the seller clearly didn't care about how it was packaged. I work to package everything with lots of protection for it, and I always use a new box or new envelope.

OFFERS: I will always consider an offer, some longer than others. Your best chance of success happens if the item has been listed for a while, your offer is reasonable (to me!), and you are a regular customer.

I am a long-time active member of the PNTC or Pacific Northwest Tool Collectors, and a long distance member of the MWTCA or Mid-West Tool Collectors Association. And once in a while I might turn up at a PAST meeting!

I hope someday I will meet some of you as we trudge the happy road of tool collecting!
