This contract dates to the WWII period, circa 1942-43. The Type D-1 was a shearling cold-weather jacket associated primarily with USAAF ground and maintenance personnel.
PLEASE NOTE CONDITION: This jacket is being sold strictly as an original WWII collectible/display piece, wall hanger, study example or restoration project. It is NOT represented as wearable.
The approximately 80+ year-old sheepskin/leather is heavily distressed and fragile with extensive surface deterioration, cracking, flaking, losses/tears, damaged areas and general deterioration throughout. Zippers show substantial oxidation/corrosion and are not guaranteed functional. Shearling shows age, wear and discoloration. Please examine all photographs closely.
Despite its condition, this is an authentic surviving WWII USAAF flight-line garment retaining its important original Werber Sportswear contract label.
Sold AS-IS for preservation/display.
Also included is an original WWII U.S. Army Air Forces shearling cap, tagged size 7¼ and manufactured by Phaneuf-Benton, Inc., Boston under a 1942 Air Corps contract. The cap is period-correct to the jacket but is not represented as having been originally issued together. Both pieces are offered as historical display/collector pieces due to their fragile condition.
