Up for sale is an incredibly beautiful, authentic Soviet-era Russian Fedoskino lacquer box dated 1974. Unlike Palekh art, Fedoskino pieces are celebrated for their distinctive, luminous realism, painted entirely by hand using specialized oil techniques over a traditional black lacquered papier-mâché base.
The lid features a gorgeous depiction of the beloved Russian folklore fairy tale, "The Scarlet Flower" (Аленький цветочек). The artwork showcases the heroine Nastenka holding the vibrant, glowing magical blossom in an enchanted forest garden, backdropped by a whimsical fairytale castle. The glowing effect of the flower and castle highlights the true depth of master-tier Fedoskino craftsmanship.
This piece features excellent provenance inscriptions hand-painted in fine gold script on the lower right-hand corner of the lid:

Very Good Vintage Condition Overall. The top miniature artwork is beautifully preserved, retaining crisp details, vibrant colors, and smooth varnish with no paint loss. The hinge functions smoothly and securely. The inner red lacquer is clean. The underside base and small corner feet show typical light surface scuffs and handling scratches in the black lacquer finish from age and storage over the decades, completely consistent with an authentic 1970s estate piece.
