This listing is for a vintage Sarung Sutra Asli from Sengkang, Indonesia, a traditional silk sarong associated with the Bugis weaving culture. Sengkang textiles are highly regarded for their vibrant colors, intricate craftsmanship, and distinctive geometric ikat-inspired patterns.
This example features vertical stripes combined with traditional woven ikat motifs in rich shades of red, magenta, gold, and black. Metallic gold threads are woven throughout the fabric, adding subtle shimmer and highlighting the quality of the textile. The overall effect is bold, elegant, and unmistakably Southeast Asian in character.
The sarong remains sealed in its original factory packaging, making it difficult to fully inspect without opening it. Based on the manufacturer's labeling, it is believed to be a pre-stitched ready-to-wear sarong rather than uncut fabric. The labeling appears to indicate dimensions of approximately 110 cm wide by 200 cm circumference, which converts to approximately 43.3 inches wide by 78.7 inches circumference.
