Nero’s was a longtime Lower Greenville neighborhood institution associated with Dallas restaurateur Brian Panza. The restaurant was operating at this exact 2104 Greenville Avenue address by the mid-1980s and remained a fixture on the street for decades before closing in 2014.
Period Dallas directories document Nero’s at 2104 Greenville with phone number 826-6376 as early as 1986/87. Later advertising used the memorable vanity number shown on this matchbook:
(214) 826-NERO
By the 1990s and early 2000s, Nero’s was known for old-school Italian dining and promoted itself as offering fine Italian cuisine in the atmosphere of 1940s New York. Dallas city records from 1996 also document approval for Nero’s to operate a sidewalk café along Greenville Avenue.
This example features a black-and-white storefront illustration on the front and the original Lower Greenville address and vanity phone number on the reverse.
Original matches remain present.
Approximate date: late 1980s–1990s.
A nice piece of Lower Greenville, Dallas restaurant and neighborhood history.
