Vintage Hand-Carved Wood Folk Art Figures Lot of 8 – ANRI, Quebec & Italy

Offered together is a collection of eight vintage hand-carved wooden folk-art figures. The lot includes Italian Alpine carvings, documented Quebec carvings, and several unsigned character pieces.

1. Guitar player — Large hand-carved and painted musician wearing a bowler-style hat and playing a guitar. Original underside label states that it was hand-carved and hand-painted by woodcarvers of the Alps in Ortisei, Italy.

2. Accordion player with dog — Comic seated musician singing while playing an accordion or concertina, accompanied by a small dog. Retains an original oval ANRI label underneath. Made in Italy.

3. F. Bernier figure — Painted elderly man wearing a red cap, long coat, and colorful woven-style sash. Signed underneath “F. Bernier, Plessisville, P. Que.” One raised hand may originally have held a small accessory.

4. Quebec rural traveler — Bent-over man wearing a broad-brimmed hat, carrying a bag or bundle and holding a small object. Unsigned, but its style and shared provenance suggest a possible connection to the Quebec carvings in this collection.

5. Seated woman — Unpainted elderly woman seated in a chair and holding what appears to be knitting or handiwork. The chair bears a Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, Quebec, Canada hand-carving stamp.

6. Seated bearded man — Unpainted elderly gentleman with a long beard, seated with his legs crossed. Companion to the seated woman and bearing the same Saint-Jean-Port-Joli workshop marking.

7. Cowboy or gunfighter — Stocky painted Western character wearing a hat, neckerchief, belt, and what appear to be two holsters. Hand carved and unsigned, with a faint, unreadable mark underneath.

8. Bearded hobo or hillbilly — Tall comic character with an oversized hat, long beard, single visible tooth, worn clothing, and a shoe exposing his toe. Hand carved and unsigned.

The pieces appear primarily mid-20th century. They are not a factory-matched set but form an appealing collection of vintage European and Canadian folk carving.

Condition varies throughout the collection. Expect age-related paint loss, scratches, surface wear, discoloration, wood checking, small chips, and possibly missing accessories or details. Some pieces show holes that may be evidence of old wood-boring insect activity. No restoration has been attempted. Please inspect all photographs carefully.
