A handsome vintage English leather wastepaper basket decorated with an elaborate hand-colored heraldic coat of arms.
The cylindrical black leather body provides a dramatic ground for the richly colored crest, rendered in red, blue, gold, white and brown. The composition incorporates a helmet and mantling above a central shield, flanked by a bear and horse and surmounted by a lion.
At 12 inches tall, it has the classic proportions of a traditional English study or library wastebasket—a particularly good decorative accessory beside a desk, writing table or reading chair.
