Velociraptor mongoliensis Skull And Foot Fossil Cast Replica Set- Dinosaurs-...:

This is a set of two cast resin replicas including the skull and foot from the Mongolian theropod dinosaur, Velociraptor mongoliensis.

First discovered in the Djadochta Formation of the Gobi Desert, Mongolia ( 83–70 Ma).

The holotype specimen AMNH 6515, consisting of a crushed skull and associated claw, was recovered from the Flaming Cliffs locality and is housed at the American Museum of Natural History.

Standing approximately 1.6-3.3 feet at the hip and having a body length of approximately 4.8- 6.9 feet long. Velociraptor was a voracious predator that did not shy away from attacking animals larger than itself, such as protoceratops. Behavior preserved in the famous " dueling dinosaurs" fossil.

Velociraptor is one of the theropod genera that demonstrate clear evidence for well developed feathers. Quill knobs present on the ulnae of Velociraptor are homologous to those observed in modern birds like ostriches, and represent where secondary feathers attach via ligaments. This direct skeletal evidence confirms that velociraptor had large well-anchored feathers on the forearm.

The enlarged, sickle-shaped claw on the second toe of Velociraptor mongoliensis wasn’t a simple “slash-and-disembowel” blade. The current consensus—based on anatomy, biomechanics, and comparisons to living birds—is that it functioned more like a grappling/anchoring hook used primarily for restraint of prey.

The same hook-like geometry would help a dromaeosaur climb onto struggling prey (especially animals larger than itself). Body weight combined with grip could keep the predator attached while it used its jaws.

Materials & craftsmanship

All casts are derived  from natural fossil specimens using a reusable, plant-based mold-making material. Casts are made with high-strength resin for durability and longevity.

Each piece is made to order, and minor variations from listing images should be expected.

Items are hand-painted where appropriate and sealed with a clear protective coat. This sealant enhances surface texture and realism but may initially produce a mild solvent-like odor. If present, simply wash the item with soap and water and allow it to air out; the odor will dissipate.
