This is a highly sought-after, vintage 1950s Sierra Vista Ceramics donkey cookie jar. Produced in California during the mid-century pottery boom, Sierra Vista was known for its whimsical, anthropomorphic animal designs. While it is sometimes misidentified in collectors\' guides as a piece by Doranne of California (which made a similar but distinct solid green donkey version), this multi-colored, detailed design is a Sierra Vista original and considered a quite rare find among cookie jar collectors

Sierra Vista “Donkey” cookie jar from the 1950s. A vintage classic jar rarely seen on due to scarcity of the piece. Go to “Research” and you’ll find 100s of Sierras Vista cookie jars sold over the years; and only one Sierra Vista Donkey.

Sierra Vista Ceramics, an American pottery company active in Southern California during the mid-20th century.The bottom of these jars typically features an incised or stamped \"USA\" mark, confirming its American-made origin. USA is incised on backside bottom edge as shown in photo.

The jar was long misidentified as Doranne of California because in the 1950s Doranne made a solid color version. This happened because the jar is unmarked and the freelance sculptor, Don Winton, sold the sculpture to both potteries
