VINTAGE PRE-WW2 JAPANESE 15\" CERAMIC SAKE BARREL w LID & RISING SUN FLAG For Sale

A large 15 inch high x 12 inches across vintage Japanese ceramic sake dispenser (Taru Cask)It\'s pre-WW2 (late Taisho - Early Showa era\'a (1910 - 1940) and has its original matching ceramic lid. (These are often missing)
Authenticating its history: The back states this is from the Matsubaya Co. Ltd in Mitsuke-cho Shizuoka Prefecture.Mitsuke-cho officially merged with neighboring towns and no longer exists as an named entity since 1940.Also, there are the two Rising Sun flags. After 1945 Japan was no longer using this as a flag.The kiln stamps on the bottom link this to a prestigious porcelain factory that specialized in white porcelain.
Note the pre-firing cutaway on the bottom. This is a factory-original design element made by the potter while the clay was wet prior to firing. It was made to accommodate a wood support or collection cup under the spouts tap.
Condition: The multicolored flags and hand painted artwork are in very good condition.The original lid is fully intact and fits tightly. It\'s wrapped in wood with paper insulation.There is an old stable hairline crack running across the unglazed bottom. This crack does not affect the structural integrity or its ability to sit flat and display on a shelf.
