Offered here is an outstanding and increasingly scarceset of original 1941 issue US Navy/US Marine Corps MKII Pilot FlyingGoggles, complete with their highly desirable original Chas.Fischer dome-shaped carrying case. These early-war goggles representone of the first standardized flying goggle patterns issued to Naval and Marineaviators prior to the widespread adoption of the famous AN-6530 series.
Manufactured by the Chas. Fischer Spring Company, the center bridge is clearly marked "MKII PILOT," whilethe frames retain their original maker markings and remain straight, clean, andfree from damage. These goggles were issued to US Navy and US Marine Corpspilots during the opening years of World War II before being replaced by theAN-6530 goggles, making them an important and historically significant piece ofearly wartime aviation equipment.
The goggles retain their original AmericanOptical green glass lenses, which remain in very good condition withexcellent clarity for display. They are fitted with the original lobsterclaw style elastic head strap, another desirable feature often missingfrom surviving examples.
Included is the original Chas. Fischerdome-shaped metal carrying case, an accessory that is exceptionallydifficult to locate on its own and seldom accompanies surviving MKII gogglestoday. The presence of the original case significantly enhances both thedesirability and collectability of this complete set.
For comfort and preservation, the goggles are fittedwith a high-quality one-piece khaki replacement face cushion, professionally installed using the original brass sewn retaining rings, maintaining the authentic wartime appearance while ensuring excellentpresentation.
Overall, this set rates excellent condition. The frames are exceptionally well preserved, the lenses display beautifully, and the complete assembly has outstanding eye appeal. Finding original MKIIgoggles in this condition is difficult enough, but locating a complete set withthe correct original carrying case is becoming exceedingly rare.
Compared to the AN-6530 goggles, the MKII PilotGoggles were produced in relatively limited numbers, making them oneof the more elusive U.S. Naval aviation goggle models sought by advancedcollectors today. They are an outstanding addition to any collection of WWII USNavy, US Marine Corps, or military aviation equipment and would make anexceptional centerpiece in any aviation display.
