Effect (what the audience sees)
1. The magician displays a red-backed deck and spreads it to show all the faces are different.
2. A prediction card is placed face down on the table before anything happens.
3. A spectator freely selects a card.
4. The selected card is placed face up on the table.
5. The prediction is turned over, and the magician jokes:
“Well… at least the back matches.”
At first, this seems like a disappointing prediction.
6. The magician then spreads the rest of the deck to reveal that the cards actually have mixed-colored backs, making the matching back seem much more impossible.
7. Next, the magician admits to being “extra prepared” and reveals that the prediction is actually a packet of four cards with different colored backs.
8. When those four cards are turned face up, they are all identical except for the one red-backed card, which matches the spectator’s card.
9. Final surprise: the spectator’s selected card is turned over and its back has now changed to an entirely new color not found among the other cards, and the magician’s prediction changes to match it as well.
