This is not a model kit; it is a finished and painted piece, as shown in the pictures here, and is ready for use or display. This replica does NOT have electronics or functioning sound effects.
As a member of the Justice Society, along with The Spectre, Doctor Fate, Hourman, Green Lantern, Atom, etc., the original Starman made many appearances in DC Comics’ All Star Comics, JLA, All Star Squadron, and many others from the 1940’s onwards.
Starman\'s original Gravity Rod (later rechristened the Cosmic Rod) was one of those cool comic superhero items that held a lot of power and looked cool too. It is the original item that later led to the Cosmic Staff used by Stargirl / Courtney Whitmore.
There are no definitive drawings of how the Gravity Rod looks, just a general shape that each comic artist took liberties with as they needed. When designing it, we looked at as many images from the comics as we could find, especially Golden and Silver Age appearances. We always tried to stick closely to the original look while still adding some nuances that made it look like it might actually be a construct of the real world.
For example, in one comic page Starman mentions pushing a particular series of buttons, so we added some action with push buttons and a slider in the grip.
The Gravity Rod was designed to look great on display, but is also excellently suited for Cosplay. The construction was made to be durable, but being plastic, it’s always a good rule to treat it with some care to avoid accidental breakage. As mentioned before, although a static prop replica, some action was included to offer greater value and authenticity.
