RARE Orig Indian Wars TRIALS M-1870 Dyer E Carbine Sling, Only 100 Made For Sale

Up for sale we have some VERY RARE original Dyer "E" carbine slings made for the 1870 Equipment Trials. If what I've researched is correct, there were only around 100 sets ever made. A set consisted of a sling, snap swivel and pouch. The slings performed very poorly in the trials, so they were ordered to be returned for disposal. Afterwards they eventually made their way to Bannerman, where they remained for many years until they closed. These slings are on the rough side. Expect them to have most or all of following issues:

• Very dry, cracked, powdery, flaking, hard, brittle leather
• Scratches, scuffs, abrasions, stitching

They will require extensive conditioning to restore flexibility. However, they will be complete with the brass buckle, both brass hooks, and both leather keepers. I have not seen any markings on these, but they could be very lightly stamped. I've noticed two distinct variants: a single piece and a two piece spliced. Splicing was common during the Indian Wars period and was done to utilize as much of the available leather as they could. The price is for ONE sling. I will not honor requests to "pick the best one available" or for a specific one pictured. The pictures show the overall condition you should expect.
