I have not seen this ad available anywhere on or otherwise, even as a crappy tear sheet. The 2 beautiful prints I have of this ad may well be the only prints of this ad left in existence, and you can own one of them today. I am the writer of this ad and I have signed the back of it.
Who the Heck am I?
I was the lead writer on the BMW USA advertising account from 1995 to 1999. I wrote and produced over 120 ads for BMW while working at their ad agency, Fallon McElligott, and won many national and international advertising awards in the process.
In 1999, I started freelancing and spent a year working at Mercedes-Benz’s ad agency, Merkley Newman Harty in New York City.
About This Ad
I wrote this unframed ad "Champagne Cork" while working at Mercedes-Benz’s ad agency to announce in a creative way that McLaren Mercedes F1 driver Mika Hakkinen had just won the Formula One World Championship for the 2nd year in a row. The art director I worked with did an absolutely beautiful job with the photos and graphics to make this ad look incredibly distinctive.
Exclusive Ad Agency Print
Ad agencies used to make prints of their ads to use in presentations and for their clients to frame. This print being offered here was produced by Mercedes-Benz’s ad agency and printed on a coated semi-gloss paper stock. As the writer, I was given a few prints for myself.
Printed on the back are all the official credits of people who worked on the ad, and the ad agency logo. I was the writer and I have signed the back of this print.
This print has never been been used or sold to the public; it’s from my personal collection of ads I wrote and produced while working as a writer in advertising the past 30 years.
This unframed print has been carefully stored in my flat-file drawers since 1999, and it is in EXCELLENT condition. NO tears, NO creases, NO imperfections.
