Today for sale we have a Spring 1989 Reagan Alumni Directory, published by Reagan Appointees Alumni of Washington, D.C., issued in the first months after Ronald Reagan left office and the administration dispersed. The directory was a private publication of the association, sold to members at ten dollars, and served to track where former appointees had landed and where they had served during the Reagan and Bush administration years.
The volume opens with a letter from Executive Director Lou Cordia at 214 Massachusetts Avenue NE, Suite 740, describing a membership drive, an upcoming spring event, and the Reagan Alumni Talent and Job Bank created to move experienced appointees into government related work as the Bush and Quayle administration took shape. The letter also notes that the previous gathering was held to celebrate President Reagan's birthday at the Sheraton Carlton in Washington.
The facing page lists the association's executive committee and board of directors, a roster of familiar names from the era including Richard V. Allen, Martin Anderson, Morton C. Blackwell, John R. Block, Wendy H. Borcherdt, Gerald P. Carmen, Elizabeth Pickens Cordia, Louis J. Cordia, Peter H. Dailey, Charles Terry Davis, Donald J. Devine, Raymond J. Donovan, Bruce E. Fein, Fred F. The bulk of the volume is the directory proper, running alphabetically across a large number of pages and listing hundreds of former appointees. Each entry gives the person's post administration position along with the departments and dates of their federal service, spanning Justice, Transportation, HUD, Agriculture, Interior, Energy, Education, the Small Business Administration, the Peace Corps, and presidential commissions. The result is a detailed snapshot of an entire administration's personnel network at the exact moment the Reagan years ended and the Cold War order began to unwind, with the reach of the roster running from cabinet level figures down through career appointees across the country.
Printed on plain stock, three hole punched, and bound in a textured navy cover with gilt lettering to the front. Condition is good with light shelf wear, mild soiling to the covers, clean interior pages, and some bending of the covers and pages.
