Prutch 1963 patent No 20 reel plumb bob with twist lock San Pedro California:
$80.00

You are offerding on one Prutch patent reel type plumb bob as pictured.

It is marked \'DES PAT 19870\" and \"MADE IN USA\" and \"No\" and \"20\" as shown. It also has an owner name engraved into one of the large side areas, and some other owner markings engraved into the other large side area.

It weighs 1 pound 2.1 ounces on my postal scale, including the bit of string that it with it, and overall length is about 7-13/16\" including the cap and the tip.

Joseph Prutch of San Pedro, California, was awarded Design Patent DES 198,470, on June 16, 1964 for his Plumb Bob.

Inside the cap are two little \"shoes\" that appear to be lead, which face each other with the string running between them. Tightening the cap tightens the two shoes against the string, which then locks the string in place. And loosening the cap allows the string to move. Those shoes would be easy to lose, but both are present with this plumb bob. The steel tip is also threaded and removable as shown.

I am not sure what the plumb bob is made of. Except for the axle and the tip, a magnet is not attracted to the body or reel or cap, and all of those parts appear to be nickel or chrome (or something similar) plated. It seems way too heavy to be anything like aluminum, and I don\'t see any hint of brass anywhere. So my guess is lead.

Condition other than the owner markings is good to very good, with lots of little scratches and dings in the finish of the body. Everything functions properly. I have no idea if the string is original or not, but the string has to be a fairly small diameter to fit through the top hole, which this string is.

l sell what I enjoy, and I collect antique woodworking tools andI enjoy photography! The queue is overflowing with tools right now, as they seem to be finding me faster than I can list them. So please keep watching as I have LOTS more to list!

ETHICS IN DESCRIPTIONS: I also buy for my collecting on , and I have been burned too many times by misleading (duh did I forget to mention .......) descriptions, and sales with pictures only of the left side because the right side was trashed. Life is much simpler for me if I disclose what I know or see about an item before you offer, and especially before you receive it in the mail. I come from the handshake school of doing business, and hopefully you are like me and understand what that means. What goes around, comes around.

RETURN POLICY: I believe that if you give honest descriptions, and include enough pictures, you shouldn\'t need a return policy. However, that doesn\'t mean that I won\'t make an occasional mistake. Please offer with the assurance that if I have made an error in my listing, I WILL take care of you.

SHIPPING: I use the US Post Office for everything. If the value is $250 or over, I will always require a delivery confirmation signature, which requires for the buyer and seller protections to be in effect.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: I no longer ship Internationally other than Canada. If you are in Canada, ask for what the shipping would cost, but be prepared for it to be $$$$$.

NEWSLETTER:Every Friday sends out an email with my newsletter featuring 10 of my most interesting new listings. To subscribe, click on the heart symbol that is labeled SAVE SELLER, and that will automatically get you on the mailing list for the newsletters. They are free, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

SELLING OUTSIDE OF : Why would I risk my lengthy good standing with to save you a couple of dollars? Especially when you ask on an email that is sent through the email system which they are reading? Please don\'t ask, the answer is no.

sales: I won’t end an sale listing early to sell it to you directly. As a buyer, I really dislike going back at the end of an sale to offer, only to discover that the seller had ended the sale early. So I won’t do that for you, or to you.

PACKAGING: Please check my response -- I package well. I understand how disappointing it is to receive a purchase where the seller clearly didn\'t care about how it was packaged. I work to package everything with lots of protection for it, and I always use a new box or new envelope.

OFFERS: I will always consider an offer, some longer than others. Your best chance of success happens if the item has been listed for a while, your offer is reasonable (to me!), and you are a regular customer.

I am a long-time active member of the PNTC or Pacific Northwest Tool Collectors, and a long distance member of the MWTCA or Mid-West Tool Collectors Association. And once in a while I might turn up at a PAST meeting!

I hope someday I will meet some of you as we trudge the happy road of tool collecting!
