Up for sale today is this National Old Trails Road red, white and blue guide sign. Made to the exact standards as used around 1916-1919 by the Automobile Club of Southern California (ACSC), which took on the responsibility for signposting the NOTR throughout the western half of the country—this sign is the furthest east we have seen an original of. It was posted in Overland Park, Kansas, and directed travelers toward Olathe and Lenexa to the west, and Kansas City and Westport, both in Missouri, to the east.
The original of these would be worth many thousands of dollars, if it even survives at all. Only photographs of it are known to exist. So here is your chance to own an excellent display piece, without breaking the bank...or making use of a time machine.
The sign is flat printed on steel, with completely accurate layout and fonts. It weighs about 7 lb. 11 oz., and is 20 by 15 inches, scaled down from the original size of 24 by 18 inches. If you would like a different size, please do not hesitate to inquire.
This is a high quality, heavy steel, non-reflective sign, printed with great gloss to accurately replicate the look of the porcelain enamel of the original. It is perfect for indoor or outdoor display. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This one will make even the most discerning collector stick their nose into the sign, as it looks that good from that close!
