I started working in bike shops (Sierra Cyclery, 1330 s. Wells Ave., Reno. NV) full time in 1968, when Nuovo Record was...nuovo. My first race bike -a crappy Frejus for $200 (but it was $100 cheaper than the white Pogliaghi I should have bought from Peter Rich @ VeloSport) had a chrome plated brass Campagnolo Record rear mech and 151 bcd crankarms.
