Fantastic Sagenite Agate Polished Freeform w/ Unknown Fibrous Inclusions
The word sagenite originally referred to a variety of rutile with a lattice like formation, frequently incased in quartz (or agate). It is from the Greek/Latin word, sagena, which means \"net\". The word later evolved to mean any number of inclusions in quartz or agate where the inclusions form a lattice, or have acicular crystal clusters, or fibrous structure. Especially the words \"sagenite agate\" and also even refers to plume agates with a fibrous look to some of the color bands. The \"sagenite agate\" has since become highly sought after.
This particular variety of sagenite agate has thousands (or maybe millions) of tiny tufts of acicular fibrous crystals, with the crystal tufts arranged in nice little rows. Some people say that in this particular variety, the inclusions are in fact rutile, but I have doubts about that (even though many of them do have a metallic sheen). Because I have doubts, I\'m just calling them unknown fibrous mineral inclusions. There are places on the surface where the polish didn\'t take very well because the inclusions caused some of the cut surfaces to be a little porous. Over all, still a very nice cut stone.
