A groove on each shelf to provide a grip for the bottom of the coin. The groove is only to provide a grip. Coins stand slanted. It is not meant for you to insert the coins into for standing. The coins are NOT slant the same angle unless the thicknesses are the same. So, we do recommend putting coins of the same thickness on the same row. Coins are NOT inserted into the groove to stand. It is simply gripping at the bottom and slant toward the back.
