This remarkable Crusader-period bronze pilgrim plaque presents a vertical narrative composition divided into three registers depicting sacred figures and devotional scenes drawn from the Christian biblical tradition. Such narrative plaques formed part of the devotional culture of medieval pilgrimage in the Holy Land and were often acquired by pilgrims visiting the sacred sites associated with the life of Christ.

The upper register depicts two haloed figures facing one another across a central element that appears to represent a staff, rod, or sacred object. The composition strongly evokes scenes of sacred encounter common in Byzantine iconography, possibly representing a moment of divine revelation or prophetic witness. The presence of the haloed figures emphasizes their sanctified status within Christian tradition.

The central register presents two haloed saints seated or standing opposite one another in a gesture of prayer and reverence. Their hands are raised in devotional posture, suggesting intercession or blessing. The style reflects the characteristic Byzantine influence present in Crusader-period religious art of the Levant, where Eastern Christian artistic traditions merged with Western pilgrimage practices.

The lower register portrays another pair of sacred figures, likely apostles or early saints of the Church. Their symmetrical placement and devotional posture reinforce the plaque’s function as a portable sacred icon intended for personal veneration.

Running inscriptions above each register appear to preserve abbreviated sacred names or invocations rendered in stylized medieval lettering. Such inscriptions commonly identified the saints represented or invoked divine protection upon the bearer.
