This species thrives in a variety of habitats, including grasslands and woodlands, often found under stones or leaf litter. Its diet consists mainly of pests, making it a beneficial insect for controlling garden populations. These beetles exhibit fascinating behaviour, such as rapid running and a defensive posture when threatened.
