This is an enchanting classical toile design reproduced from an authentic 19th C. French document. It depicts the traditional French story of Henriette and Damon the boatsman. There are four scenic narrative vignettes typical of traditional Toile de Jouy., Each represents an event in their relationship. First, “l’arivee de Damon” (his arrival), second, their meeting - “le navigateur et Melide”, third “Melide et sa Mere” (Melide and her mother) and finally, “le depart du navigateur” (his departure). The colors are beautiful and the quality of the cotton and print exquisite. “Le Navigateur” is a discontinued fabric from Clarence House and quite collectible. The condition is excellent, unused. It is a bit wrinkled.
