Macon Georgia was a strategic Civil War city , serving as the Confederacy's arsenal, and in the site of Camp Oglethorpe POW Camp, the State Capitol and as a hospital for wounded Confederate soldiers. Postwar it was occupied the summer of 1866 as HQ for the notable Civil War 15th US Infantry, with Frederick W. Coleman as Regimental Adjutant. An Original October, 1866 US Army Pay Voucher for Lt Coleman as Adjutant of the 15th US, for pay to be issued to Lt Coleman and for "1 private servant not soldier", issued at Macon and signed by twice by LT Coleman as Regimental adjutant, HQ 15th US Infantry at Macon, October, 31, 1866. 2pp 8 x 17"". Minor age stains, edge wear, Overall VG. Comes w service info for Frederick William Coleman, who enlisted at Lockport, NY served in the 151st & 162nd New York 1862-64, and wounded in action, the US Army 1864-74, and brevet major for the Battles of Spottsylvania & Cold Harbor, Virginia. His son and grandson both attained the rank of General in the US Army and they are all buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
