The production of frames of the Berliner Leiste type began in the 19th century in Germany, specifically in Berlin. Their name originates from the city where this type of frame gained popularity. The frames were coated with gold, silver, copper, or lacquer to emphasize their elegance. Gold, silver, or copper was applied only to the front side of the frames, as elaborate decorations on the sides would increase production costs and require more labor. Therefore, the sides of the frames remained clean and colorless.
