This listing is for an Antique pairing lot of a tintype and ambrotype photo of the same UNNAMED Civil War soldier housed in 19th Century union cases. The rougher black case has separated but features the very rare Beaufort SC backdrop tropical scene with prominent palm trees, an American flag, military A-frame tents, and distant rolling hills in the background. The Union soldier is standing in his standard frock coat with 9 buttons with arms crossed and a pensive look on his face. This sixth plate tintype measures 2.75” by 3.25” inches and looks to be in excellent condition for its age with no more than average age wear to the photo. The image is still clear and most of the wear is along the edges of the photo. The black case is in fair condition having separated and features some wear and loss to the case/inside and out. Has a bit of a musty smell to the cloth/velvet where it was stored in a garage/airing out should help.
The ninth plate is an ambrotype of the same Civil War soldier seated and wearing his fine suit with a large bow tie. This glass picture is in excellent overall condition with a sharp image and it is housed in a gorgeous Holmes, Booth & Hayden patriotic Lady Liberty ( stars on headband) thermoplastic case. This case features a heavy relief cameo on each side with a Goddess of Liberty and patterned scroll design. It measures 3” inches by 2 1/2” inches and is in excellent condition with no damage that I can note. There is a small chip or worn down corner but it’s minimal for its age (pic 19). Hinges are excellent and the original paper from Holmes & Booth is still nestled inside. Has a bit of a musty smell to the cloth/velvet where it was stored in a trunk in a garage. Airing out should help.
