An Atomic experiment gone terribly wrong!This is an accent lamp based on an infamous experiment by nuclear weapons researchers. This is only a test. If this had been an actual experiment, that glowing sphere would be plutonium, and you'd be absorbing a lethal dose of neutron radiation!TL;DR: This lamp is USB powered with a switch on the cord, and the light output can be adjusted by positioning the small blocks to prop up the upper hemisphere. A sphere of Plutonium was involved in a fatal incident in 1946. Atomic physicists from the Manhattan Project needed to know how close the sphere (Which had been slated to be used in the third Atom Bomb) was to Critical Mass - the mass at which an atomic reaction is self-sustaining, leading to an atomic explosion. They surrounded the Plutonium core with two hemispheres of neutron-reflective material (Beryllium), which would have the effect of making the mass closer to critical. Physicist Louis Slotin (being a bit of a showman) was keeping the hemispheres separate using a screwdriver when the screwdriver slipped, dropping the top hemisphere and causing the core to become supercritical. In one blinding blue flash lasting less than a second, Slotin received a massive dose of radiation and died nine days later. The last photo shows a reenactment of the event. Since this was actually the second time a scientist had been killed by the same core (under almost the same circumstances), it became known as the "Demon Core," and was subsequently melted down rather than being installed in a bomb.See four small blocks of material allowing you to prop up the upper hemisphere as precariously as you dare!
