Authentic pair of antique Native American Woodlands-style beaded hide and velvet moccasins, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century (circa 1890s–1920s).
This pair features exceptional craftsmanship typical of the Great Lakes/Northeast region, often created for community use or the historic tourist trade. They are a wonderful example of Indigenous textile and glass art from the era.
Design & Material Features:
Body: Brain-tanned split hide (buckskin) with traditional center-seam construction tapering at the toes.
Cuffs: Deep black velvet/velveteen folded ankle cuffs providing a rich background for the vibrant beadwork.
Beadwork: Intricate, organic floral motifs utilizing a vibrant mix of translucent, opaque, and iridescent glass seed beads, alongside tubular green glass bugle beads to form the leaves. Features a striking berry/strawberry motif.
Trim: Faded grey-blue silk ribbon binding around the ankle opening, complete with matching ribbon bow ties.
