This specimen is especially desirable because it retains its original paper labels pasted to the end panels—a feature far rarer than the standard stamped wood versions found today.
Measuring approximately 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" x 5 3/4", this box hails from the original production site in Providence, Rhode Island. The "Pain-Killer" was one of the world's first patent medicines, notoriously marketed as a "Joy to the World" while consisting of a potent blend of alcohol and opiates.
