There was a time when a naval officer did not simply “get dressed.” He assembled himself.
The bicorne hat came out. The gilt shoulder epaulets were fitted. The ceremonial belt, sword hangers, and shoulder cord completed the transformation from ordinary mortal into something closer to a walking oil portrait. This is the kind of formal naval dress that belonged to parades, inspections, academy ceremonies, official occasions, and whatever other grand human rituals required gold braid, posture, and the faint possibility of being yelled at by someone with a sword.
This lot has that old institutional presence collectors love. The fore-and-aft bicorne hat carries a Midshipmen’s Store / USNA label inside, tying it directly to the United States Naval Academy tradition. The pair of shoulder epaulets display rank consistent with a Lieutenant Junior Grade / LTJG officer. Together with the ceremonial waist belt and shoulder cord, the grouping presents beautifully as a naval dress uniform accessory set. It has history, display value, and enough gilt decoration to remind us that the military once understood pageantry better than most modern interior designers understand lamps.

The bicorne hat shows wear from age/display/storage. The gilt elements retain strong visual presence but show expected surface wear.
