Antique E.C. Atkins & Co. hand saw featuring a 26.5 inch steel blade, 7 TPI tooth pattern and an exceptionally attractive carved wooden handle with floral and scroll decoration.
The handle retains its original circular E.C. Atkins & Co. Indianapolis, Indiana medallion. E.C. Atkins was one of America’s major historic saw manufacturers and operated in Indianapolis for decades, producing highly regarded professional woodworking saws.
This example measures approximately 29 inches overall with a 26.5 inch blade. The blade remains straight when viewed along its length and the entire tooth line appears complete with no missing teeth. It has approximately 7 teeth per inch.
The wooden handle is one of the strongest features of this saw, with extensive carved floral and scrolling decoration on the presentation side. The handle shows considerable honest wear from age and use including finish loss, scratches, discoloration and multiple visible age cracks. Please examine the close up photographs carefully for these areas.
The steel blade displays an aged dark patina with oxidation, spotting, scratches and general surface wear. Any original blade etching is no longer clearly visible.
This is an appealing surviving example of an early American E.C. Atkins woodworking saw and would make an excellent addition to an antique tool collection, woodworking display, vintage workshop or E.C. Atkins collection.
