This remarkable handmade scrapbook is far more than a nursery catalog. Carefully assembled by its original owner, it combines approximately70 original mounted chromolithographic color plates, numerous mounted original nursery photographs, and selected horticultural text into an extensive visual reference devoted to ornamental gardening.

Subjects include roses, iris, peonies, clematis, wisteria, dahlias, trumpet vine, flowering shrubs, hardy perennials, climbing vines, and many other favorite garden plants.

Large, brilliantly printed chromolithographs are paired with period photographs showing mature specimen plantings, estate gardens, porches, pergolas, and landscape designs, creating a fascinating record of American ornamental gardening during the early 1900s.

Offered is an extraordinary handmade horticultural reference scrapbook assembled during the first decades of the twentieth century. Rather than preserving a single nursery publication, its compiler created a personal botanical archive by selecting and mounting illustrations, photographs, and descriptive material from multiple contemporary horticultural sources.

The volume contains approximately70 original mounted chromolithographic color plates, accompanied by numerous mounted original black-and-white nursery photographs illustrating mature gardens, flowering vines, shrubs, estate plantings, pergolas, porches, and landscape designs. Brief descriptive text accompanies many subjects, emphasizing blooming habits, ornamental value, cultivation, and landscape use.
