Antique WWI-era Snead & Company 75 M/M Victory Lamp made from a genuine U.S. Government French-American 75mm artillery shell. This is an authentic post-World War I commemorative piece manufactured by Snead & Company Iron Works of Jersey City, New Jersey.
The original label is still partially present underneath the brass base and identifies it as a “75 M/M Victory Lamp.” These lamps were produced shortly after World War I from 75mm shells associated with the 1918 Morgan Explosion.
One of the most interesting features is the engraved copper driving band around the shell, which reads:
“They shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks: Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.”
The lamp has a very substantial brass base and weighs approximately 11 pounds.
Measurements:
• Approximately 14” from the bottom of the base to the top of the artillery shell
• Approximately 20” overall to the top of the light bulb as photographed
• Approximately 11 lbs
Condition is antique/pre-owned with age-related wear, scratches, oxidation, discoloration and finish wear throughout. Please examine all photos carefully for the exact cosmetic condition.
IMPORTANT: The lamp has NOT been plugged in or electrically tested. The electrical cord and plug appear very old, and the plug should be replaced before attempting to use the lamp. Because of its age, the buyer should have the wiring inspected and/or replaced before use.
