18th Century Chinese Export Porcelain Trencher Salt Cellar
A rare and highly collectible authentic Chinese Export porcelain trencher salt (open salt cellar), dating to the late Qianlong / early Jiaqing period (circa 1785–1805). This exquisite piece of Federal-era dining history was manufactured in Jingdezhen, China, custom-ordered for the Western market.
It features a classic Neoclassical design consisting of a heavy gilded rim, an inner delicate dotted border, and a repeating row of deep cobalt blue enamel oval cartouches. The center of the concave bowl features an elegant, hand-painted gilded script monogram enclosed within a gold oval frame.
The structure demonstrates all the hallmark traits of genuine period export porcelain, including a subtle "orange peel" glaze texture, a characteristic soft bluish-celadon white paste tint, natural kiln-dirt mineral flecks embedded from the original wood-firing process, and a naturally aged, unglazed footrim patina.
