Arthur Rene (A.R.) Launey (1843–1908) was a prominent late 19th-century photographer in Savannah who took over studios from several iconic Georgia image-makers.

Born in New Orleans, Launey moved to Savannah and bought out D.J. Ryan’s famous gallery at 21 Broughton Street in September 1885.

316 Broughton Street was located further down the street from the commercial studio hub (which was centered at 21 Broughton West near Bull Street). An image of 316 Broughton is almost certainly a private residence, boarding home, or family dwelling rather than a commercial storefront.

21 Broughton Street (1885–1912): When A.R. Launey bought D.J. Ryan\'s gallery in September 1885, he established his business at 21 Broughton Street West. The studio operated out of this exact location for over 25 years before moving to York Street in early 1913.

Partnering as Launey & Goebel (1886): In April 1886, Launey partnered with George Goebel to buy out O.P. Havens. Operating as Launey & Goebel, they advertised as successors to Havens at 141 & 143 Broughton Street.

Having handwritten notes in black ink on the reverse indicating \"This view is right at our corner\" suggests this specific mount was used in-house as a stock reference card or personal gallery note by Launey (or his studio partner George Goebel) around 1886–1890 to catalog their local view inventory.
