Original Soviet educational postcard issued in 1979, depicting the legendary Antarctic expedition led by Robert Falcon Scott. The artwork shows members of the expedition struggling across the frozen Antarctic landscape with pack ponies during their attempt to reach the South Pole.
The reverse tells the story of Scott\'s 1910–1913 Terra Nova Expedition. It describes the journey to Antarctica aboard the Terra Nova, the difficulties caused by deep crevasses and harsh conditions, the failure of the Manchurian ponies and motor sledges, and Scott\'s disappointment upon learning that Roald Amundsen had reached the South Pole first. The text also recounts the tragic fate of Scott and his companions, who perished from cold and exhaustion just 11 miles from a supply depot. A fascinating collectible illustrating one of the greatest stories in the history of polar exploration.
