Against a vivid red ground, the button features the large black initials“TDA”beneath the inscription“Join The Conspiracy.”TDA, or “The Day After,” organized demonstrations surrounding the verdict in the Chicago 8 trial, including a February 1970 action in Washington, D.C. The slogan deliberately turned the language of conspiracy used against the defendants into a rallying cry for political protest. The button is documented among collections of 1960s protest ephemera and is a particularly graphic example of the political culture surrounding the Chicago 8 trial.
