Vintage 1969 Vanguard Studios Vanathane Heraldic Wall Plaque
I spotted this one and loved the dramatic old-world look immediately. The crown, castles, fleur-de-lis, crossed decorative bands and deep sculptural relief give it incredible presence on the wall.
• Authentic Vanguard Studios, Inc. wall sculpture dated 1969
• Original brass Vanguard Studios maker plaque remains attached to the reverse
• Original Vanguard label identifies the material as solid-core VANATHANE
• Measures approximately 23.5” tall x 17.5” wide x 4” deep
• Elaborate heraldic / coat-of-arms inspired design
• Features a large crown, castles, fleur-de-lis motifs, scrollwork and antiqued gold accents
• Lower banner reads “VIREBO,” a Latin motto meaning approximately “I shall flourish” or “I shall thrive”
• Rich brown faux carved-wood finish with black and antiqued gold detailing
• Deep molded relief gives the appearance of hand-carved wood while remaining lighter than solid wood
• Wonderful Medieval Revival / Spanish Revival / Old World / Gothic Revival style
• Original hanging wire is present on the reverse

Condition
Vintage condition with age-appropriate surface wear.
There is rubbing and wear to the painted and gilt finish, along with scattered small nicks, marks and surface imperfections consistent with age. The reverse shows wear around portions of the hanging hardware area. No major break to the decorative front has been noted.
