Original 1964 U.S. Navy issued 100% wool peacoat, named to sailor R.H. Phillips, retaining its original Machinist’s Mate Third Class (MM3) sleeve insignia.
Original Machinist’s Mate Third Class (MM3) rating badge remains attached.
Authentic U.S. Navy issued pea coat in EXCELLENT condition, showing virtually no signs of wear. This coat appears to have been carefully preserved and professionally cleaned, with dense, rich wool that remains thick and uniform throughout. There are no stains, moth damage, thinning, shine, repairs, or odors. The structure, lining, seams, and buttons are all excellent.
This is a genuine military-issued garment, not a reproduction or surplus fashion piece. Correct construction details are present, including the original anchor buttons, full lining, and interior markings. The original sleeve rank insignia remains intact, which is uncommon, as many issued coats had insignia removed after service.
Provenance:
Interior markings correspond to a documented U.S. Navy service member appearing on 1964 Navy muster roll records. Name, service number, rate, and time period are consistent with mid-1960s U.S. Navy service. While absolute attribution cannot be guaranteed, the markings and insignia align with documented service during the Cold War / early Vietnam-era period.
