1938 British Mandate Palestine Money Order Certificate — Rehovot to Aden — Trilingual Hebrew Arabic English — Rare Postal History
An original and historically significant Certificate of Issue of a Money Order (Form P.T. 304) issued by the Palestine Posts, Telegraphs and Telephones under the British Mandate for Palestine, dated 6 August 1938.
The Document:
This authentic trilingual official form — printed in English, Hebrew and Arabic — was issued at Rehovoth (Rehovot), one of the earliest Jewish agricultural settlements in Palestine, and made payable at Aden, Arabia (then a British Crown Colony, today part of Yemen). The amount transmitted was 16 Palestinian Pounds and 160 Mils — a substantial sum for the period.
Historical Significance:
This document was issued at one of the most turbulent moments in Palestine\'s history — August 1938, at the height of the Arab Revolt. Yet here is evidence of normal civilian life continuing — someone in Rehovot sending money across the British Empire to Aden, likely to a family member or business contact in the ancient Jewish community of Yemen.
It connects two British colonial territories — Mandate Palestine and Aden Colony — through a routine postal transaction, documenting the integrated administrative system of the British Empire at its height. Both territories no longer exist. The Palestinian Pound no longer exists. Yet this form survived everything.
