1930 Pontiac Indian Head Radiator Cap Hood Ornament – Ternstedt – Prewar Original
Offered is avintage Pontiac Indian Head radiator-cap hood ornament, believed to date from approximately1930–31. This striking Art Deco mascot features the profile of Chief Pontiac surrounded by a large circular ring, with the dramatic horizontal feather extending behind the head.
The ornament is an original-stylezinc die-cast, chrome-plated radiator cap assembly. Raised markings on the underside are consistent withTernstedt Manufacturing Co., Detroit, the important General Motors supplier that manufactured Pontiac radiator ornaments during this period. Documented original Pontiac examples from approximately 1930–31 carry Ternstedt identification and related patent markings.
The ornament displays substantialoriginal age, chrome wear, oxidation and surface pitting, clearly shown in the photographs. It hasnot been represented as restored or replated with the exception of the top front ring. It is virtually impossible to find this ornament with the original ring.Please review all photographs carefully as they are part of the condition description.
