Striking original vintage photographic portrait of Germaine Lix (1893–1986), the celebrated French actress, singer and music-hall performer, posed in an elaborate fur-trimmed theatrical costume.The photograph is personally inscribed and signed in ink by Germaine Lix—not a printed or facsimile autograph. The French dedication offers her “best remembrance” to a named couple. A handwritten date at the lower left appears to read 1926.Germaine Lix enjoyed a long career on the French stage, in cabaret and in motion pictures. Her film appearances included Notre-Dame-d’Amour and Marcel Carné’s celebrated Le Jour se lève (Daybreak).The lower photographic border bears an unidentified photographer or studio signature. The reverse has older pencil inventory notations, including “$700” and “E-766.”An atmospheric and uncommon original portrait combining French theatrical history, early entertainment photography and a genuine performer’s autograph.CONDITION:Vintage condition with age-related toning, scattered spotting and surface marks to the photograph.
