This rare historical artifact is a small 1893 glass bottle sealed with cork and wax, containing authentic wood remnants from the Donner Party cabin sites (such as the Murphy or Breen cabin) at Donner Lake near Truckee, California.
Number 594, very low number. Approximately 250 of these bottles were given to the Smithsonian Institute so that means there are probably less than 200 more available. That makes this bottle even more rare given the low number and the scarcity.
Originally produced by local historian C.F. McGlashan, 5,000 bottles were created to sell for $1.00 each to fund the construction of the Donner Pioneer Monument. Only a fraction sold, and fewer than 200 are known to survive today. This is a rare low number bottle probably the lowest number that has sold at sale or on . It is an excellent condition. All three tags are intact along with gold seal tag which is rare to find.
