Rather than having a simple uniform interior, the quartz contains numerous overlapping growth boundaries, stepped structures, recessed forms, internal fracture planes, and crystal-like cavities. These features create a strong three-dimensional appearance and give the specimen the look of a transparent internal labyrinth.One of the most important features is its multi-stage skeletal architecture. Inside the crystal, several transparent growth layers appear to overlap and intersect, producing a complex skeletal appearance.
